Fred Flare
Mens & Womens Clothing & Accessories, Home & Gift
Chris Bick and Keith Carollo have taken Fred Flare from the back of a bike in Soho to a cute-cult favorite shopping destination online and in their Brooklyn store. Fred Flare is jam packed full of everything you didn’t know you needed from clothes to accessories, home décor, gifts and even books and stationery.
Fred Flare has somehow managed to include a spectacular range of totally affordable fashion pieces and lust-worthy designer items. With a fresh mix of well-known brands (BB Dakota, Tulle, Necessary Objects, Hurley, & Junkfood) and up-and-coming designers (Many Belles Down, Erica Weiner, Marais and Dear Creatures) you have the chance to experience a wide variety of must-haves. They’ve also made a habit of carrying couture accessories from Alexis Bittar and Disney Couture which somehow fit seamlessly in their otherwise reasonably priced pages of goodies!
Over the past decade, Fred Flare has maintained it’s original mission, which was to bring cute to the masses while giving they’re customers a unique glance behind the scenes. In 2006, Fred Flare launched their “BFF” (blog fred flare) to increase interaction with their customers. Since then, their blog has become a huge part of the company; hositng contests, getting feedback from their readers and giving the Fred Flare staff a chance to talk directly to their readers / customers.
From 2005 to 2008 Fred Flare held the “Next Big Thing” contest to shine a light on new designers. Designers would be featured and sold on the site and could win $1,000 to $5,000 in prizes! Notable designers include: Amy Sedaris, Jay McCarroll, Dee & Ricky, Kelly Eident, and Heidi Kenny.
In October 2008, Fred Flare opened their very first door-store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, only minutes from their HQ. A vintage looking storefront fits the retro-glam style of everything you can find inside. Commonly referred to as “Store Cute”, Fred Flare’s store has been the perfect platform for trying new things. Used for art installations, parties, and of course, sample sales, it’s become a total destination for Fred Flare lovers from all over the world. You’re likely to see stacks of suitcases from out-of-towners, any day of the week. And in 2010, a 2nd fred flare store location is planned... This time in Manhattan! Fred Flare taking a bite outta the big apple... CHOMP!
