From a very young age, Kristel Delevante showed an interest in crafts. Growing up in the Soviet Union meant having only clothes with little or no character and wearing only black or grey. "Since I can remember , I wanted to dress differently and also to dress everyone else around me. That motivated me learn how to sew, knit and crochet from a very early age. Luckily, I had my grandmother and mother to teach and guide me"
After graduating from high school, Kristel located a school in Finland that focused on hands-on skills of working with leather and fabric. At the that time, Kristel's brother was living in New York City ad informed her about the opportunities available there to grow as a designer and to learn more about the fashion industry. She decided to make the bold move to New York and to follow her dreams. However, Having little money, it took her several years to get her footing. Finally after being inspired by the other young designers, she decided to try selling her handmade hats in a variety of markets. The response from people was very encouraging and her business began to grow quickly
